Dear Public Health Official,

Hurricane Harvey was a major natural disaster that caused catastrophic damage of mass proportions across southeast Texas. Many of us will never forget the huge impact that this event had on our community.  Lives were devastated and neighborhoods destroyed, yet recovery has begun.

Although we have surpassed the six-month anniversary of Hurricane Harvey, we want to ensure that the mental health component of our fellow-citizens is a priority and is included in our recovery efforts. As your partner in public health, the Department of State Health Services will host a town hall meeting to address the availability and accessibility of mental health resources during and after a disaster.

We would like to invite you to be our special guest at this event which will occur on:

March 20, 2018 at 10:00am-12:00pm

Elias Ramirez State Office Building

5425 Polk. St. Houston, TX 77023

Rooms 4C, D and E

RSVP to Iliana Molina

via phone at 713-767-3110 or

e-mail at: iliana.molina@dshs.texas.gov

During this meeting, we will lead a thoughtful discussion surrounding local mental health resources, identify existing mental health needs of residents including first-responders and generate a list of mental health resources for distribution.  Moreover, we hope this meeting will be the catalyst for a meaningful and sustainable collaboration between our organizations that will result in a stronger mental health disaster response in the future.

Please feel free to share this invitation with others who you feel will contribute to this discussion.

It is our hope that you kindly accept our invitation to attend this remarkable event knowing that your presence and dedication will make a difference in the lives of Texans.
