During the Plan Integration Peer Planning Workshop, local subject matter experts came together to talk all things “plan integration.” This included challenges and lessons learned concerning:
- Horizontal plan integration—coordinating planning efforts within an organization and across various functions, mission areas, and partner organizations at the same/similar level.
- Vertical plan integration—alignment of lower-level plans to higher-level plans (e.g., city to county to regional to state to federal).
- Representative planning teams—ensuring that departments, partner organizations, and whole community stakeholders written into the plan are represented on the planning team.
Additionally, participants heard from and engaged with a panel composed of partners that have roles in emergency management but whose organizations are often underrepresented on planning teams. These experts conveyed the importance of planning with them and gave tips for how to best include them and other unexpected partners in future planning efforts.
