Houston Urban Area Security Initiative (UASI)

Since 2003, the greater Houston area has been considered by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to be among the highest threat urban areas in the nation. This designation qualifies the area to receive funding through the DHS Urban Area Security Initiative (UASI) grant program. This program was established to enhance the preparedness level of high threat communities.

With support from the UASI and related homeland security grant programs, stakeholders in the Houston Urban area are engaged in a multi-disciplinary and multi-jurisdictional partnership to improve local capacity to prepare for, protect against, response to and recover from catastrophic incidents.
