Some no-notice incidents may leave responders and emergency managers having to decide whether it is appropriate to have a community temporarily evacuate or shelter in place. The choice made results in cascading impacts that emergency managers need to be prepared for.
During the November 2023 Protective Action Decisions Peer Planning Workshop, subject matter experts spoke about these impacts and the planning that should be done to prepare for them.
This workshop addressed best practices and challenges related to protective action decision making; stressed the importance of coordination between the incident site to the emergency operations center (EOC) and from the EOC to supporting departments and organizations; and provided information to help jurisdictions, agencies, and organizations develop or improve corresponding plans.
